As part of Literacy Week, Grade 1 students came together to celebrate the joy of reading and language. The objective of this initiative was to help students build their vocabulary skills through fun, engaging activities while fostering a love for stories and words. The event, held from the 23rd to the 27th of September 2024, provided a platform for students to explore language creatively. From enjoying the puppet show and participating in vocabulary-building games to engaging in author reviews and the word walk, the students demonstrated their growing understanding of language and their passion for learning. Throughout the week, students learned fun facts about different stories and characters, applying vocabulary concepts in exciting ways. It was a proud moment for JSSIS to see these young learners growing with creativity and enthusiasm. The celebration was filled with joy, discovery, and the happiness that comes from exploring the magic of language!

The assembly held on the 26th of September 2024, led by Grade 1L, revolved around the theme of the Power of Reading, showcasing how books and reading shape young minds and fuel their imaginations.

The program commenced with a soulful Quran recitation, setting a serene and reflective tone for the gathering. This was followed by a heartfelt prayer, seeking wisdom and the strength to learn and grow through reading.

In a display of patriotism, the students sang the National Song with great enthusiasm, filling the room with a sense of pride and unity.

The Idiom of the Day—”Reading between the lines”—was then introduced, teaching students the importance of seeking deeper meanings and understanding beyond the obvious in both reading and daily interactions.

Next, the Thought of the Day was shared: “ The more you read , the more things you will know. The more that you learn , the more places you will go. ” This thought inspired students to view books as gateways to endless imagination and adventure.

Adding to the excitement, the students of Grade 1L performed a lively action song that celebrated the joy of reading. Their energetic performance engaged the audience and demonstrated that reading can be both educational and fun.

An interactive quiz to encourage the children to think about the stories they’ve read and inspired others to explore new books.

In the Show Your Talent segment, Deevah showcased her keyboard skills, impressing everyone with her talent and dedication.

The assembly concluded with an inspiring address by Supervisor Ms. Shazia, who spoke passionately about the significance of cultivating a love for reading from an early age. She emphasized that reading not only improves academic skills but also fosters creativity, empathy, and critical thinking. Ms. Shazia encouraged students to make reading a daily habit, reminding them that books offer endless adventures and opportunities to learn.

The assembly wrapped up on a high note, with students feeling motivated to read more and explore the vast world of stories and information that books provide.
